That's pretty neat! But I will admit I was a little disappointed. I thought I was going to be able to buy a new Cub at the site. LOL

Oh, give me a sec, let's see if I can dismantle one and ship it back in crates labeled "chopsticks" (taking a cue from Radar in M*A*S*H! )

We will give you more than a sec to do what ever it takes to get 'em to the US. From your posts it sounds like they are just getting them on the show room floors. Can you by one or is there a wait? Any way to find out if there will be a 50Th anniversary one for the US in 09?

Yes, AFAIK, they are. The Honda site lists the dealers who are offering the Anniv edition.

No wait for '08 models of course, as you can see, there are and have been 08 models for sale since end of '07. But the Anniv edition is the one just out, starting August.

Any way to find out if there will be a 50Th anniversary one for the US in 09?

I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't bet on it. Apparently, ever since the 80s, when the last Cubs made it to the U.S. rebadged as the "Passport", the legalizing costs have gone up. Things like turn signals, emissions, etc, even though the Cub runs far cleaner than most superbikes out there. The yahoo group for Passports is an excellent source of info on the legalizing of Cubs into U.S. and other countries. They've got all the stories of trials and tribulations of everything from Mexican imports (they still sell the Cub, very similar to the Japan model, btw. To recycling frame numbers from dead bikes, etc.

Is the Anniv edition Super Cub only with 50ccs or will there be any 90cc ones?
I am on the Yahoo Super Cub groups but my bikes are from the sixties so I had to go read up in the C70 group. Pretty much the same info all over.
Is the there a way to connect with early Cub fans in Japan that can write in English?
Would early 60s C100 project Cubs be worth anything there?

Thanks

So many questions

good question. I'm pretty sure it's only seen in 50cc, since that's the anniversary bike. The 50cc was released in '58. So that makes sense. Plus, the 50cc is the record holder for most vehicles sold in history.

The other displacements 70cc, 90cc came a bit later, and didn't have nearly the sales that the 50cc did, though they are just as popular nowadays.

Yeah, that's a swell group. I learned a lot there.
Mike knows these machines inside and out.

Another good question. The list wouldn't be too big, but still, one is better than none, right? There are some cub sites, actually lots of 'em, that are in Japanese. However, many of these guys and gals can write English better than they can speak it, so correspondence might be easier than it looks. I haven't visited too many sites myself, but I see the links out there when i do a search. Might be a good idea if I list a bunch of sites here soon, that folks could check out. They'd be in Japanese, but a google trans would work. Then see if you get any responses.

Funny you mention that. I just saw a C100 for sale at a nearby classic bike shop I cruise by sometimes, called T.R. COMPANY.

The link is: HERE

And for the Google translated one, click HERE

And this other one of same bike: HERE

Cheers

I like the yellow color of your Super Cub but it looks like the 90 does not come in that color.
I do use Google to translate what good Japanese sites I find. It is a literal translation and I have always wondered what is meant that they translate turnip?
If I did the currency conversion right the bike sold for $1600 USD.
For the condition that might be on the high side for the US from what I see on Ebay. Are there many that vintage for sale?
My used name is the same on the Super Cub group.
I am looking forward to seeing what Cub web links you have.

Happy trails

It's Honda Y 141, Plasma Yellow. It's not offered all the time. I've seen it on only a few models of bikes. It's offered on some large sports bikes like the CBR and VTR series.

Haha. Yeah, I forgot. I'll have to go to the sites and take a look. I remember wondering that same thing. Hilarious.

Yeah, they're certainly not as cheap as you see in the states. Mine, new was 1500 or so, plus the street option, a windshield, a front rack came to about 1700. Mostly in the U.S. 1500 is tops for a Cub, I would think. But, in Japan, nothing is cheap, including their no. 1 bike, of which there are millions. Plus, used vehicles are a not a good deal here. That's why i went w/ new.

Are there many that vintage for sale?

Unfortunately, no. I rarely see them.
I think they get shipped overseas to SE Asia, Russia, India, etc. Just like their used car market.

You too, take care.

Here are a few Cub web links that look real interesting but I have not been able to make contact with anyone from them.

What sites do you know of?

Oh yeah. I've tried to communicate with the super-cub site before. Not much luck either.

Here's one that looks promising:

This guy has a lot of quirky chotchkis on his bike, but he seems into it. I like the small windscreen from a Cubra. Been thinking about how it would look on mine.

Here's a ridiculous movie:

"Super Cub"
I guess, like all things japan, they have to coincide w/ calender events and anniversaries, so they obviously planned this to coincide w/ the 50 year anniversary. Wouldn't be surprised to note Honda put money into it.

And of course, the japanese obsession with panties has to have the rider blast by a chic blowing her skirt up.

I do like that wind shield. I could get around on his site with Google translating but it does make me wonder what they are translating turnup.
That movie proves again these bikes are real chick magnets!
